A breast care and surgery service is provided at Charing Cross and St Mary’s hospitals. Both units are run by a multidisciplinary team comprising surgical, oncology, pathology and radiology professionals.
The unit has a same day breast lump assessment service. After referral by a GP, patients with breast lumps are assessed according to agreed protocols, subject to clinical examination, radiological imaging and cytological examination, with the aim of providing a diagnosis at the end of that day.
Treatments for breast cancer including surgery, reconstruction, sentinel node biopsy and chemotherapy are undertaken on-site using state-of-the-art techniques and contemporary protocols.
A breast screening service is also provided at Charing Cross Hospital. Please see the entry for breast services for further information.
