Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is a member of the London (North West) comprehensive local research network (CLRN).

CLRNs are a collaboration between hospital trusts, primary care trusts (PCTs) and higher education providers in a particular geographical area. There are 25 CLRNs in England that together form the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) comprehensive clinical research network. They provide support for clinical trials, including funding, infrastructure, and education and training.

Several key members of the London (North West) CLRN are from Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, including the CLRN’s clinical director, Professor Martyn Partridge, and co-directors Professor Azeem Majid and Dr Robina Coker.

You can read more about the London (North West) CLRN on the UK Clinical Research Network website.

The CLRNs act as a clearing house for eligible clinical trials involving patients or patient samples in a particular geographical area. Each network holds a list of current trials, including national multicentre trials, local and single-centre trials.

The trials are sponsored or funded by organisations that meet the criteria of being open nationally, conducting proper peer review and concerning patients or samples. Some commercial trials or commercially supported trials are eligible for inclusion on the trial register, but must be fully costed.

Organisations recruiting to trials on the register receive funding for their support costs. Payments for support are allocated and not bid for. Staff involved in recruitment are eligible for membership of the faculty of the NIHR and may receive partial salary support as a consequence.
