Imperial College Clinical Research Governance Office
The Clinical Research Governance Office serves Imperial College London's research community and works in partnership with Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust to advise on the conduct of clinical research.

National Research Ethics Service (NRES)
The NRES maintains a UK-wide system of ethical review that protects the safety, dignity and well-being of research participants, while also facilitating and promoting ethical research within the NHS.

NHS Research and Development (R&D) Forum
The NHS R&D Forum is a network for those involved in planning and managing research in health and social care within the NHS.

Clinical Trials Toolkit
The Clinical Trials Toolkit website offers practical assistance to help you meet the requirements of the UK Medicines for Human Use (Clinical Trials) Regulations 2004.

Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA)
The MHRA enhances and safeguards the health of the public by ensuring that medicines and medical devices work and are acceptably safe. If you wish to conduct a clinical trial with an investigational medicinal product, or a medicinal product used outside of its marketing licence, you must obtain approval from the MHRA.

Department of Health (DoH)
The DoH provides health and social care policy, guidance and publications for NHS and social care professionals.

Medical Research Council (MRC)
The MRC is a publicly funded organisation dedicated to improving human health. It supports research across the entire spectrum of medical sciences, in universities, hospitals, their own units and institutes in the UK and Africa.

European Medicines Agency (EMEA)
The EMEA is responsible for the scientific evaluation of applications for European marketing authorisation for medicinal products. Under the centralised procedure, companies submit one single marketing authorisation application to the EMEA.

UK Clinical Research Collaboration (UKCRC)
The UKCRC is a partnership of organisations working to establish the UK as a world leader in clinical research, by harnessing the power of the NHS. Its aim is to re-engineer the environment in which clinical research is conducted in the UK and to benefit the public and patients by improving national health and increasing national wealth.

NHS Innovations London
The NHS Plan commits the NHS to ensuring that innovations are identified and developed in the interests of patients and society as a whole. NHS Innovations London is part of a national network of NHS innovation hubs that help trusts identify, protect and develop their intellectual property. It was formed from the merger of four smaller London-based innovation hubs.

Human Tissue Authority (HTA)
The HTA regulates the removal, storage, use and disposal of human bodies, organs and tissue from the living and deceased.

Integrated Research Application System (IRAS)
The IRAS allows researchers to enter information about their study in one place and is designed to save time and effort by preventing duplication of information in separate application forms for each type of approval. Examples include applications to the NRES, the Gene Therapy Advisory Committee (GTAC), the MHRA, etc.

INVOLVE
INVOLVE is a national advisory group, funded by the Department of Health, which aims to promote and support active public involvement in NHS, public health and social care research.
