Do you have an idea or invention that could help improve patient care? Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust can help ensure that the benefits of your innovation remain within the NHS instead of being exploited by the commercial sector.
The NHS is well-known for generating innovation, but in the past the opportunity to capitalise on ideas and innovations has often been inadvertently lost to commercial representatives or companies through presentations at conferences or casual conversations.
Protecting your ideas
One way that you can help protect the intellectual property of your invention is with a patent from the UK Intellectual Property Office. Experts from the IPO will scrutinise an invention and award it a patent if appropriate. The patent is a tradable commodity that can be sold outright or licensed to interested parties for exploitation. The revenue generated is returned to you and the NHS to implement further improvements in patient care.
Ideas that are not suitable for a patent may still generate revenue via linking up with a commercial partner that already has an interest within a particular market sector.
