The Imperial clinical trials unit (ICTU) helps researchers at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and Imperial College London to deliver clinical trials and other high-quality research. These trials and research projects help to develop and test new healthcare interventions, drugs and therapies to the highest scientific standards. It is part of our academic health science centre (AHSC).

The ICTU plays a pivotal role in achieving the goal of our AHSC becoming one of the world's top centres, not only for research, but also clinical performance.
The unit encompasses a broad spectrum of disease areas including, but not limited to, the following:
• Cardiovascular and metabolic disease
• Oncology
• Psychological medicine
• Mental health
• Respiratory disease
• Infectious disease
The disease areas covered by this unit are highly relevant to global health, with the World Health Organisation highlighting both infectious disease and non-communicable disease, including cancer, cardiovascular and respiratory disease, as being of major importance.
The unit is run by two directors: Professor Deborah Ashby and Professor Neil Poulter. Professor Ashby is chair in medical statistics and clinical trials at Imperial College London. Professor Poulter is co-director of the International Centre for Circulatory Health and honorary consultant and epidemiologist at St Mary's Hospital, part of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.
