The HIV research unit at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is based at the clinical trials centre at St Mary’s Hospital.
Our key areas of research include:
• HIV vaccines
• Anti-HIV microbicide gels
• New drug treatments
• Treatment strategies, such as when to start and what to use first
• Primary HIV infection
• Discordant couples, where one partner has HIV and the other doesn't

Clinical trials
We generally have around 25 clinical trials running at any one time, involving patients from the Trust and healthy volunteers from the general public.
