The Sir John McMichael Centre at Hammersmith Hospital carries out a variety of medical research projects. While some studies involve patients, many require the participation of healthy volunteers. Often volunteers have to be found within a relatively short time frame and it is essential that they are truly healthy. We are therefore putting together a panel of adults who are interested in participating in future clinical studies.
If you are interested in taking part in clinical research please complete a copy of our volunteer health questionnaire and return it to us by post, using the address on the questionnaire, or in person.
• Download a copy of our volunteer health questionnaire (PDF, requires Adobe Acrobat Reader, free download)
We will review your questionnaire and if appropriate you will be asked to come to the centre for screening tests. Volunteers will have the following tests to ensure they are healthy:
• A blood test to check your liver, kidneys, thyroid and cholesterol levels and to ensure that you are not anaemic or diabetic
• An electrocardiogram (ECG) - this is a non-invasive test to look at the health of your heart
• A urine sample to test for illegal drugs, and routine urine screening
• A breath test to measure the levels of alcohol
Your height, weight, blood pressure and pulse will be also be measured.
Volunteers will be registered with the hospital and we will keep a record of your personal details. We will contact you as studies become available. You are free to consider participating or to decline. You may ask to be removed from the database at any time.
Once you have enrolled in a research study you will be paid for your time and inconvenience.
If you have any questions about the questionnaire or becoming a healthy volunteer, please call us on 020 3313 8070.
We also list a selection of studies that are currently recruiting volunteers on our website.
