This maternity hospital offers excellence in the care of women and their babies through a highly specialised team of obstetricians, paediatricians and midwives.
We offer a full range of maternity/obstetric services from midwifery-led care to complex high risk care. The hospital is a tertiary referral maternity unit with a nationally renowned Centre for Fetal and Maternal Medicine, one of the largest neonatal intensive care units in the country and a labour ward with two fully equipped operating theatres and high dependency care facilities.
As well as providing a maternity service for local women, we receive referrals from around the country for women with very complicated pregnancies. The service includes genetic counselling, specialist clinics for various fetal conditions and medical obstetric clinics for women with conditions complicated by pregnancy. Physicians and maternal medicine specialists as well as many allied specialists staff the obstetric medicine service.
We have a midwifery-led birth centre that has won two national awards for its homely environment, for women with uncomplicated pregnancies who choose natural childbirth.
The one to one midwifery caseload service provides additional emotional and social support to vulnerable women and disadvantaged groups living in the local area as well as a home birth service for women with uncomplicated pregnancies.
We provide antenatal and postnatal community care via four teams of community midwives covering our catchment area. The geographical areas covered correspond to the local PCT area, W3, W4, W6, W12, part of W5 and part of W14.
