Our Trust has one of the lowest mortality rates in the country, according to new figures November 2011. The new Summary Hospital-level Mortality Indicator (SHMI) data shows that Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust has the fourth lowest rate in the country.
This means that taking into account the characteristics and severity of the illnesses of the patients we treat, the Trust saves many more patients than is expected. Our Trust’s level is 0.75 which ranks us fourth lowest of all non-specialist acute NHS trusts in the country, and places us in the category ‘lower than expected’ alongside 13 other trusts. Waiting lists
From December 2008 you can expect to start your medical treatment within a maximum of 18 weeks of being referred by your GP, unless it is clinically appropriate for you to wait longer or you choose to delay your treatment. Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is beating the national 18 weeks target, starting the treatment of 96 percent of inpatients and 97 percent of outpatients within 18 weeks of referral.

Patient feedback
The government’s independent healthcare watchdog, the Care Quality Commission (formerly the Healthcare Commission), carries out national surveys of patients to find out about their experience when receiving care and treatment from healthcare organisations.

In the 2008 survey of patients in emergency departments, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust was placed in the top 20 percent of London trusts for the following:
• Keeping patients informed about waiting times
• Listening to what patients had to say
• Giving sufficient information about a patient's condition or treatment
• Involving a patient as much as they wanted in decisions about their care or treatment

Meals
The standard of food provided at our five hospitals is rated as 'excellent' or 'good' in recent figures published by the National Patient Safety Agency. We are working towards an 'excellent' rating throughout our trust as part of our three-year nursing and midwifery strategy.
