Driving new technologies through translational research
Welcome to Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust’s pathology and molecular diagnostics services.
The directorate of pathology at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is one of the largest and most comprehensive in the UK, offering a wide range of diagnostic and clinical support services to our hospitals, West London GPs, other NHS institutions and private organisations.
Molecular diagnostics is a rapidly growing component of disease diagnosis and management.
The Imperial Molecular Diagnostics Service has been established to drive new technologies through translational research and the enhancement of patient care.
Our laboratories are situated across hospital sites but concentrated at Charing Cross Hospital, which houses a large and sophisticated automated laboratory, a centralised microbiology laboratory, specialist biochemistry services, a tumour marker laboratory and toxicology department. Molecular diagnostics are focussed at Hammersmith Hospital where a new facility was opened in January 2011.
Over 70 consultant pathologists provide extensive clinical and interpretative advice. More than 500 clinical and biomedical scientists plus additional support staff provide analytical, interpretive and advisory services across our network of laboratories.
Many of our laboratories operate 24 hours a day, every day of the year and clinical or scientific advice is available at all times.
