About us

The paediatric team at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust provides a wide range of specialist and general services for children.

Each year we provide more than 20,000 paediatric outpatient appointments, and treat around 25,000 children in our 24-hour paediatric accident and emergency (A&E) department. More than 9,000 children are patients on our paediatric wards, and more than 6,000 lives have been saved in our paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) since it opened in 1992.

The PICU has an international reputation for the management of severe sepsis (blood poisoning) in children, and our family HIV clinic has a national reputation as an excellent model of care. Our bone marrow transplant unit has a national reputation for the treatment of non-malignant blood conditions, and the allergy service has a national reputation for the management of children with severe allergic conditions.

Guidelines
It is very important to us to optimise the clinical care of children. We have a comprehensive range of guidelines to ensure consistent care, and have a dedicated guidelines development group.

Education and training
Ongoing education and training is vital for all the members of our multidisciplinary clinical team that work with children. This extends from the statutory training in safeguarding children to specialist courses run by our expert teams, such as paediatric allergy and paediatric simulation training.
