The Western Eye Hospital is a renowned stand alone ophthalmic hospital established in 1856. It is now within Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.

It is the specialist in-patient hub for ophthalmic services in west London with affiliated departments at a number of sites across London including Charing Cross Hospital, St Mary’s Hospital, Hillingdon Hospital and Central Middlesex Hospital.

Facilities include outpatients, inpatients, day-case and in-patient surgery, and a 24-hour eye accident and emergency service.

New referrals are predominantly seen in rapid access clinics and general ophthalmic clinics. These are then channelled through to sub-specialist ophthalmic clinics providing state of the art treatment for any condition that can affect the eye.

The Western Eye and Charing Cross hospitals also serve as tertiary referral centres for the whole of West London and beyond. Although the eye is a small organ, it is very complex anatomically and therefore additional expertise is required to cover the many diseases and problems that can affect each part of the eye.

Our consultants have sub-specialty expertise that cover every part of the eye and along with our ophthalmic trained nursing establishment aim to offer the very best ophthalmic care possible.
