Maternity services

Welcome to the website for maternity services at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. We provide care for over 9,000 women and their babies each year. We care for you and your baby during pregnancy, labour, birth and up until one month after birth.

We believe in building partnerships between you, your partner, our midwives and our other medical staff. This helps you to make informed choices and helps make sure you receive the best possible care.

You can choose where you give birth, including at home, at a birth centre or in hospital. You can also choose who the lead professional is for your care during and after your pregnancy. Your choices will depend on your personal preference and your medical need.

We will do our best to make sure you are kept fully informed at each stage of your pregnancy. We will reassure and support you throughout your care.

We also feel that teamwork is critical to the quality of your care. You will be treated by a team of experts from different areas of healthcare, including midwives, doctors and other health professionals as required. This is known as ‘multidisciplinary’ care.

Our maternity services are based at two of our hospitals:
Queen Charlotte's & Chelsea Hospital
St Mary’s Hospital

Our maternity services are open to all women, however Queen Charlotte’s & Chelsea Hospital is very popular and often gets booked up very quickly. This may result in late referrals being turned away. When this happens, women who live in our local area have priority. You can get a referral from your GP, or complete your own referral form.

Maternity helpline (020 3312 6135)
The maternity service has a dedicated helpline operated by experienced midwives. This has been developed to provide women and their families with direct and easy access to maternity-related information. This is also the number to use for easy and quick self-referral for maternity care at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. Call 020 3312 6135 for information, advice and guidance.
