Endocrinology/diabetic medicine
The internationally renowned endocrine service covers all areas of endocrinology:
- Multidisciplinary thyroid clinic offers rapid access to patients with thyroid nodules, goiters and thyrotoxicosis, and routine appointments for all other thyroid disorders
- Patients with thyroid cancer have diagnosis, treatment, management and follow up of their thyroid cancer under the care of the Trust’s thyroid cancer multidisciplinary team, ensuring optimal follow up of such patients
- Metabolic bone disease clinic for patients with calcium disorders. There is also a one-stop osteoporosis clinic
- Pituitary clinic with expertise in the management of pituitary disorders including Cushing’s disease, acromegaly, prolactinomas, non-functioning pituitary tumours and pituitary failure
- Neuroendocrine tumour and multiple endocrine neoplasia clinic
- Adrenal/PCOS/primary and secondary infertility clinic for patients with adrenal disorders, or with PCOS, or who need investigation of hirsutism, or with primary or secondary amenorrhoea
- Obesity service (see bariatric surgery)
- Multidisciplinary clinic for pituitary dysfunction after traumatic brain injury
- Multidisciplinary clinic for Prader-Willi syndrome and other genetic causes of obesity
Services covering diabetic medicine include:
- Enhanced multidisciplinary type 1 diabetes clinics with support for continuous subcutaneous insulin pump therapy and provision of continuous glucose monitoring
- A multidisciplinary hypoglycaemia clinic for people with type 1 diabetes
- A multidisciplinary diabetic foot service, focusing on foot infections including osteomyelitis, and on Charcot foot disease
- A multidisciplinary type 2 diabetes clinic with a focus on the investigation and management of impaired renal function
- Specialist diabetes nurse clinics for insulin starts and interim outpatient follow-ups
- Structured education for type 1 diabetes
- Same-day consultation for newly diagnosed symptomatic hyperglycaemia
