Critical care

The general intensive care service cares for patients admitted either as emergencies or as part of specialised complex treatment procedures performed by the regional or national units based within the hospital.

These include patients recovering from cardiothoracic, interventional cardiology, major endocrine and hepatobiliary surgery, interventional radiology and patients who have had major surgery for gynaecological cancer.

The service also supports the high risk obstetric and clinical haematology units, the West London Renal and Transplant Centre (WLRTC) and the National Pulmonary Hypertension Service London Centre.

Patients who have stayed with us for more than brief periods are invited to a follow-up clinic three months after discharge from intensive care. The service also has an active research programme.
