About us
Hammersmith Food Research (HFR) is based at Hammersmith Hospital and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. Together with Imperial College London the Trust is one of the UK’s first academic health science centres (AHSCs), combining excellence in the delivery of healthcare with a strong research base to provide an environment of continuous improvement to products and services.
HFR benefits hugely from being part of the AHSC. We are based at a leading hospital and we have world-class medical support and analytical facilities on site. We have access to a dedicated research facility that is staffed throughout the working week and can undertake complex studies needing access to venous or arterial blood or studies requiring a high degree of observation. We also have access to a body of screened volunteers who are willing to participate in research, so we can quickly respond to client needs.
HFR is strongly linked to the Trust’s department of nutrition and dietetics, which is one of the most influential in the country.
Our technical leadership is provided by Professor Gary Frost, who has a distinguished record of research in nutrition and metabolism and consultancy around the measurement of glycaemic index (GI) and the formulation of foodstuffs for nutritional benefit.
