Referrals to Charing Cross Hospital

A same-day service is provided for:

Plain film imaging
Monday to Friday, 09.00 to 16.30

Bone densitometry
Monday to Friday, 09.00 to 16.00

Appointments are provided for all ultrasounds and upper GI fluoroscopy examinations. Waiting times for an ultrasound appointment is usually within two working days.

Fax a request to the number given above and give the request form to the patient. The patient may then ring us to arrange a suitable appointment.  

Some specialised ultrasound scans still require a referral from a hospital consultant. Obstetric requests should be referred to Queen Charlotte’s & Chelsea Hospital.

Referrals to Hammersmith Hospital

A same-day service is provided for general radiology, Monday to Friday, 09.00 to 16.30.

Appointments are provided for all ultrasounds and upper GI fluoroscopy examinations. Waiting times for an ultrasound appointment is usually within two working days.

Referrals to St Mary’s Hospital

An appointment is normally required for the above services, except for general X-rays, which are available on demand from 08.00 to 16.30. Other investigations must be booked and a referral request form can be faxed to the department by the referring clinician.

Alternatively, the patient can bring along the referral form to the department during opening hours.

Radiology at St Charles offers a non-urgent general X-ray service. Patients who need an instant report or medical opinion should be referred directly to St Mary’s rather than St Charles Hospital.

The walk-in service for GPs is available Monday to Friday, 09.00 to 19.00, and Saturday and Sunday, 11.00 to 17.00.

Ultrasonographer-led abdominal and non-pregnant pelvic ultrasounds are carried out by appointment at St Charles, with an average wait of two weeks.

Appointments cannot be accepted over the telephone as specific written information is required to send the correct preparation information.
