We expect to submit an application for Foundation Trust status during 2013.
A foundation trust is a type of NHS organisation that offers significant opportunities for patients and members of the public to get involved in how it is run. Foundation trusts also have more financial freedom than other NHS trusts, and are regulated differently.

Becoming a foundation trust will help ensure we keep our patients at the heart of running our hospitals, and will give us greater freedom to grow and develop to meet the needs of our local community.
Public consultation
We carried out a public consultation between August 3 and October 23, 2009. Our public consultation has now closed. We would like to thank everyone who contributed their views on our proposals.

Becoming a member
You will be able to become a member of our Trust, enabling you to vote in elections for the Trust’s board of governors, or stand for election as a governor yourself. If you become a member you will also be consulted on future plans for the Trust, be invited to key meetings and events and have a say in the appointment of senior members of staff.

Our hospitals will continue to offer high-quality NHS care to our patients. We will still be judged against national performance targets, including those set by England’s independent healthcare watchdog, the Care Quality Commission.
