The Trust works with Imperial College to deliver undergraduate medicine
Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust works in partnership with Imperial College London, one of the world’s leading universities. Together we have created one of the UK’s first academic health science centres (AHSCs) and we are dedicated to achieving excellence in both healthcare and research. The Trust works with Imperial College London to deliver undergraduate medicine, as well as other academic centres such as King’s College London Florence Nightingale School of Nursing & Midwifery, Bucks New University and Thames Valley University for undergraduate nursing. The AHSC nurtures a supportive learning environment for undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing professional development for all staff including healthcare professionals.
Educational opportunities for undergraduates are provided to students in many healthcare professions, including medical students from the Imperial College London School of Medicine. The opportunities provided are either formal training programmes or elective placements which allow students to acquire additional expertise in focused clinical areas.
When medical students begin a clinical attachment at our Trust, we ensure they are properly inducted and receive copies of procedural guidelines through our Undergraduate Medical Office. Similarly, pre-registration nursing students and mentors are supported by the senior nursing team, with key staff in every hospital.
Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust supports undergraduate medical and nursing students and sees undergraduate study as a key element of the AHSC’s vision.
The vision for the academic health science centre (AHSC) is that the quality of life of our patients and local populations will be vastly improved by taking the discoveries that we make and translating them into medical advances - new therapies and techniques - and by promoting their application in the NHS and around the world, in as fast a timeframe as is possible.
