Providing robust programmes of postgraduate courses for doctors, nurses, and other health professionals
As on of the United Kingdom’s first academic health science centres (AHSCs), we provide a robust programme of postgraduate courses in numerous fields that are available to doctors, nurses, and other health professionals at all levels.
The AHSC is keen to harness the interests of staff, expose them to the scientific excellence and unlock their potential. Our staff have told us that they are “proud of working here” and a significant proportion have had development opportunities (staff survey).
Many of the educational activities delivered at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust are multispecialty and multi-professional. Examples of this are the trauma education sessions and multi-professional simulation training for doctors, nurses and other health professionals. Much of the training take place on-the-job and we have an ethos that every contact is potentially a “developmental contact”. We are working on formalising this to ensure that the learning is captured!
Doctors
Education and training programmes are available for medical staff at all stages of their careers.
This includes
• programmes for foundation year doctors
• specialty training for core trainees and specialist registrars
• continuing professional development opportunities for consultants
• studentships (for MSc, MRes or PhD qualifications)
• various short courses
Postgraduate nursing and midwifery
Nursing and midwifery postgraduate education is high on our agenda. We aim to increase the number of staff nurses qualified to degree or master’s level by providing educational opportunities.
Postgraduate training for other health professionals
We are committed to the development of all healthcare professionals and provide excellent professional growth opportunities. The Trust is one of the early adopter sites in the UK where Modernising Scientific Careers pilot is being run.
