The Health Science Academy (HSA) was established to promote and coordinate postgraduate and post-qualification education for all healthcare professionals at the Academic Health Science Centre (AHSC) and other Imperial-associated Trusts.

Following the formation of the AHSC, it was recognised that the education needs of healthcare professionals would benefit from a closer association with the expertise in education at Imperial College London (ICL). The HSA will therefore provide a portal based in the College, through which healthcare professionals at the AHSC and other Imperial-associated Trusts can readily access relevant Masters and CPD/Short Courses.

The HSA will have representation from professional leads in the various healthcare professions, and will be able to identify gaps in our provision of education, develop new Masters and CPD/Short Courses, and increase the opportunity of marketing our courses nationally and internationally. In order to achieve this, the HSA will work closely with the School of Professional Development (SPD) and the Graduate School of Life Sciences and Medicine (GSLSM).

There will be four divisions of the HSA, responsible for Medicine, Nursing and Midwifery, Allied Healthcare Professions (with Pharmacists and Healthcare Scientists), and Leadership and Management.

This exciting development is a good example of the benefit of bringing together partners from the University and the NHS, and will help to deliver the education component of the triple mission of the AHSC to become world class in the delivery of education, research and clinical service.
