To meet the emerging demand and need for technology enhanced learning (TEL), the education directorate has sponsored eight TEL projects across the Trust. This is in collaboration with Imperial College School of Professional Development and is likely to significantly improve access to essential learning in many clinical and non-clinical areas. The Open University has worked with us to evaluate our ‘“e-maturity’ (an organisation’s capacity to make effective use of technology to improve educational outcomes)”, which provides a sound platform for developing an e-learning strategy.

We have piloted two innovative clinical leadership programmes:
• Paired learning - a programme that brings together managers and specialist registrar level doctors in formal and informal/experiential learning environments, initiated by Dr Bob Klaber
• Today’s doctors, tomorrow’s leaders - an innovative programme for and by foundation doctors, who have identified specific skills that would equip them to become future clinical leaders.

A successful bid to NHS London has enabled us to commence development of an interactive electronic database of courses for healthcare professionals on behalf of the North West London health innovation and education cluster (HIEC). This will enable staff to access an extensive range of courses and development opportunities and book online.

Video conferencing is being increasingly used to share knowledge across specialties and professional groups. This year, we had an operating theatre where delegates had the opportunity to ask a cardiothoracic surgeon questions while conducting an innovative procedure.
