Urology

The multidisciplinary team provides expert diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of urological conditions.

Core urological services include:

  • Daily one-stop haematuria clinic and urology clinics (two-week waits)
  • Benign prostatic hypertrophy and bladder outflow obstruction – designated lower urinary tract symptoms clinic
  • Incontinence and pelvic floor disease
  • Urological stone disease - designated stone clinic five days a week, on-site lithotripsy service
  • The majority of acute ureteric stones may be managed non-operatively by lithotripsy
  • Upper urinary tract obstruction: we accept cases requiring emergency interventional radiology from west London and beyond
  • Urology diagnostic unit (flexible cystoscopy, TRUS biopsy and urodynamics)
  • Male-female gender reassignment service (for more information, please see gender surgery service)
  • Andrology - erectile dysfunction clinic
  • Weekly multidisciplinary clinic for prostate cancer on Wednesday afternoon
  • Weekly multidisciplinary clinic for bladder cancer on Thursday afternoon

The department is the designated centre for urological malignancy in the West London Cancer Network. We aim to see all two-week wait referrals within 24 hours of receiving the fax.

Services include:

  • The supraregional testis cancer centre including retroperitoneal lymph node dissection for post chemotherapy residual masses
  • The West London Cystectomy Centre for bladder cancer
  • Open and laparoscopic radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer
  • Laparoscopic radical nephrectomy and laparoscopic partial nephrectomy

The service has state-of-the-art diagnostic and surgical equipment and a custom-made urological laparoscopic operating theatre.

  • Blue light cystoscopy – in select cases may detect bladder tumours that may be missed by traditional techniques
  • Intravesical installations unit for adjuvant treatment of bladder tumours

Location
Surgery is carried out in main theatres and the Riverside wing.
Inpatients are based on the 4th floor, south wing, 7th floor north wing and Riverside ward.
