The board of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, the UK’s first academic health science centre (AHSC) in partnership with Imperial College London, was approved in September 2007 by the secretary of state for health following an extensive public consultation.

Chief executive Mark Davies Mr Davies has more than thirty years’ experience in the NHS, including working as a chief executive in six NHS trusts over a period of nearly 20 years. He has direct knowledge of Imperial College Healthcare having been the interim chief executive of both the legacy organisations of St Mary’s NHS Trust and Hammersmith Hospitals NHS Trust prior to their merger and the creation of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust in October 2007. He also played a major role in the establishment of the merged operation. |

Medical director, clinical services Professor David Taube David is one of the UK's leading renal physicians. Educated at Oxford and Cambridge universities, he has pioneered models of renal medicine and transplantation and led the development of the West London Renal and Transplant Centre (WLRaTC). He has published over 110 peer-reviewed papers and was recently appointed professor of transplant medicine at Imperial College London. |

Previous roles include, director of finance and performance at the South West Strategic Health Authority, deputy chief executive and chief financial officer of Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust. |

Director of nursing Professor Janice Sigsworth Professor Janice Sigsworth joined the AHSC in October 2008 from the Department of Health, where she was the deputy chief nurse (England). This role involved delivering nursing policy in both research and acute service settings and providing leadership to nurses at all levels of the NHS. |

Chairman Sir Richard Sykes Sir Richard Sykes (born 1942) was awarded a BSc in microbiology from Queen Elizabeth College, University of London, a PhD in microbial biochemistry from Bristol University, and a DSc from the University of London. He received a knighthood in the 1994 New Year's Honours list for services to the pharmaceutical industry. He has over 30 years of experience within the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries having joined Glaxo Research in 1972 as Head of its Antibiotic Research Unit. Sir Richard was senior independent director, non-executive deputy chairman and chairman of the Remuneration Committee of ENRC from 2007 - June 2011, chairman of NHS London from December 2008 to July 2010, Rector of Imperial College London from 2000 - 2008 and a senior independent director of Rio Tinto plc from 1997 to 2008. He is a Fellow of Imperial College London and Imperial College School of Medicine, King's College London and Honorary Fellow of the University of Wales, Cardiff and the University of Central Lancashire. |

Jeremy Isaacs Jeremy is a founding partner of JRJ Group. In the context of JRJ Group’s investment activities, Jeremy has assumed the position of non-executive chairman of Marex Spectron. Prior to the establishment of JRJ Group, Jeremy held the position of chief executive officer Europe, Middle East and Asia Pacific, at Lehman Brothers from 2000 to 2008. Jeremy was instrumental in the development of Lehman Brothers’ international operations, a process which consisted of both business-building (equities, fixed income, investment banking, investment management) and geographic expansion (Continental Europe, Asia, Middle East). Previous to Lehman, Jeremy was an executive director at Goldman Sachs, which he joined in 1989. Jeremy serves many philanthropic initiatives, holding a range of positions, including: Trustee of The J Isaacs Charitable Trust, member of the Bridges Development Fund Advisory Board, member of the British Olympic Advisory Board, Trustee of the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice and honorary fellow of the London Business School. Sir Thomas Legg Thomas was permanent secretary of the Lord Chancellor's Department (now the Ministry of Justice) from 1989 to 1998. Since then, he has held a variety of posts, including the chairmanship of the former Hammersmith Hospitals NHS Trust, membership of the Audit Commission and the House of Commons audit committee. He is also a consultant to the law firm Clifford Chance. |

Angad Paul The Honourable Angad Paul is the chief executive officer of Caparo, one of the UK’s largest family-owned companies specialising in the manufacture of steel, automotive and engineering products. He also has extensive international interests in the Middle East and India. Angad is chairman of AV Pictures, a production company and sales agency that includes film distribution company Cinescope Entertainment and high-profile design and manufacturing company Established and Sons. He also co-founded Film 24, a television channel dedicated to films. |

Ellen Schroder Ellen Schroder has spent her professional life in corporate finance, and was a managing director of Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein until March 2003. Ellen joined the former St Mary's NHS Trust board in December 2003 and also sits on various hospital and medical committees including the Great Ormond Street Hospital clinical ethics committee and the birth unit advisory committee at St John's & St Elizabeth's Hospital. In the charitable sector she is chair of the Cord Blood Charity and has been active in raising funds for Leukaemia Research, REACH at Great Ormond Street Hospital and the Anthony Nolan Trust. |

Crispin Simon Crispin Simon is helping to facilitate sport for under-privileged children, creating jobs, and delivering healthcare education in Africa through the Alive & Kicking Charity. He was chief executive of medical technology company Biocompatibles until recently. The company is a world-leader in combination products, which combine the functionality of a medical device with the therapeutic action of a drug. Crispin has years of experience working with medical professionals and researchers; previously he was the president of the endoscopy division of Smith and Nephew, a company that develops medical devices. He joined the Trust as a non-executive director in April 2008. |

Professor Maggie Dallman Professor Dallman is principal of the faculty of natural sciences and professor of immunology at Imperial College London. With broad experience in teaching and lecturing, she has held a large number of academic and honorary positions at universities across the world. Her research includes studies in immunology and inflammation, and its relationship to conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease and obesity. She currently sits on several external advisory groups including the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) strategy advisory board. She joined the Trust board in February 2010. |

Observer Sir Keith O'Nions* Sir Keith O’Nions has been acting Rector of Imperial College London since 1 January 2010, after joining the College in July 2008 to set up and direct a new Institute for Security Science and Technology. Before joining the College Sir Keith was director general, Science and Innovation in the department for Innovation, Universities and Skills. This followed his position as chief scientific adviser at MOD from January 2000 to July 2004 and director general, science and innovation and chief scientific adviser at DTI from 2004 onwards.He was a member of the UK Government’s Council of Science and Technology (1998-2000) and Trustee and then chairman of the Natural History Museum (1996-2005). |
