Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust has a zero-tolerance attitude to fraud. Our counter-fraud service, provided by Parkhill, tackles fraud in several ways:
• Developing an anti-fraud culture across the Trust's workforce
• Investigating any allegations of suspected fraud
• Obtaining, where possible, appropriate sanctions and redress

Counter-fraud services in the NHS
In 1998, following the formation of the NHS Counter Fraud and Security Management Service (CFSMS), every NHS trust in the UK was required to employ a local counter fraud specialist.
The remit of the NHS CFSMS is to tackle all losses to fraud and corruption in all areas of NHS spending. The strategic document Countering fraud in the NHS (PDF, requires Adobe Acrobat Reader, free download), published in December 1998, set out the comprehensive, integrated and professional approach to tackling all fraud and corruption in the NHS. The high-level aims are to reduce fraud to an absolute minimum and hold it permanently at that level, releasing resources for better patient care and services.
Specialist processes to counter fraud and corruption are part of the public's definition of a modern organisation, and professionalism is the key to success. The approach to this is detailed in the document Countering fraud in the NHS: The professional and ethical approach (PDF, requires Adobe Acrobat Reader, free download).
